First Look: Michael Keaton and Costumed Friend in ‘Birdman’ From Alejando González Iñárritu

Director Alejandro González Iñárritu isn’t known for comedy — films like Amores Perros, Babel, and 21 Grams may have elements of humor (small ones), but are generally serious, muti-strand dramas.

His new film, Birdman, appears to be something else. The film features Michael Keaton as an actor known for playing a the hero Birdman, and the character appears to be haunted by his past as he attempts to mount a Broadway comeback. In fact, the Birdman character may literally be haunting Keaton’s character, as set pics from the film show the actor being followed by a masked figure bearing giant wings — reportedly as manifested by the actor’s imagination. The photos are eye-catching; see a couple in full below.

Photos come from The Daily Mail, which also has shots of Keaton being suspended by wires in front of a green screen, and in Times Square.

Birdman also features Lindsay Duncan, Zach Galifianakis, Edward Norton, Andrea Riseborough, Amy Ryan, Emma Stone, and Naomi Watts,
